Casting a Shadow over the Future of the Paralympic Games

Description

Despite the increasing commercialisation of the Olympics, the Paralympics face a constant struggle to cover the operational costs of their Games. Indeed, the £80 million funding of the 2012 Paralympics is nowhere near the costs of putting the games on. This problem is exacerbated by the global financial crisis and disputes over the control of media rights. Complex negotiations over these rights have led to uncertainty over the future of the 2018 Winter Paralympics at Pyeongchang in South Korea.
