Impact of the News International Scandal on the 2012 Games
Description
Sponsorship of the Olympics is important to both the organisers of the Games and the sponsoring organisation. The TOP Partner Programme is the official sponsorship programme of the 2012 games and is likely to account for up to 40% of the total revenue of the Games. This case study examines the case of News International which was appointed as an official partner of Team GB, with exclusive rights and access to the athletes for their stories, but subsequently dropped by Team GB and LOCOG, following the 'phone tapping scandal.
