Unit 1 LSHTM Tutoring for Distance Learning - Podcast transcript

Hello my name is Marion Waite and I am the tutor who is leading you thorough unit 1 of the tutoring for distance learning course.

In this first unit the emphasis is very much on experiential learning so that we can practice distance-learning skills. This is to help us identify and explore some of our own hopes and fears as distance learning tutors within a safe environment and think about the specific skills which are required to be an effective distance learning tutor. We also begin to consider the expectations and needs of distance learners as distinct from learning within the face-to-face environment.

The three tasks within this learning unit are intended to help you achieve these outcomes and demonstrate them in the unit 1 assignment. The activities consist of posting a discussion to help us get to know one another, reading about the experiences of a distance learning student and using all of the resources in this unit in order to formulate the ideal attributes of a distance learning tutor and sharing our reflections upon these

I will be here to support you thorough these tasks and I look forward to working with you. At the end of the unit I will post a summary within a discussion forum of the overall outputs of the group and very importantly provide you with feedback on your assignment.
