Week 1: The supervisor's roles and responsibilities
13 - 19 January 2013
- Navigate your way around the discussion forums, read messages and post a message to the right area.
- Navigate your way around the course materials and resources.
- Begin the habit of recording your own learning
- Articulate your expectations of the supervisory experience.
Week 2: The research process
20-26 January 2013
Establish supervisory strategies and interactions appropriate for the LSHTM distance context, specifically to:
- support students in developing their research proposals
- nurture academic writing when working with students across cultures.
Week 3: Communication strategies
27 January - 2 February 2013
- Discuss communication strategies for working with masters students at a distance
- Select communication tools from those available to you.
- Identify the signs and signals that students are struggling
Week 4: What makes for 'masters' level?
3-7 February 2013
- Discuss our expectations for students at different levels of study.
- Clarify what the markers are looking for in the project report.
- Help students to engage with the assessment criteria.
Week 5 onwards
10 March 2013 - course site becomes unavailable.
