Course approach

Learners

This course is designed for teachers and trainers from all education sectors and all disciplines. We welcome international participants. Reliable and regular access to internet services is a pre-requisite. This course will be of most interest to staff who have identified a new or existing course which they are preparing for online, distance and/or blended delivery.

Learning environments

Most of the communication and activities of the course will take place within the discussion forums and related tools of Brookes Virtual (the Oxford Brookes installation of Moodle). Synchronous web tutorials will take place in Wimba Classroom, which requires a particular setup and details are provided in the course site. We will also use Google Docs for collaborative work, although a Google account is not required to participated in these activities.

Learning outcomes

In order to achieve the stated learning outcomes, you are expected to work through the guided readings, participate in the tasks, and share your work with others. There is a mix of individual and collaborative group activities. All participants are expected to play an active part in the course each week.

This course is not formally assessed or accredited. We do offer Certificates of Attendance to those who participate in each week's learning activities. We anticipate that in order to engage fully in the course activities, you will need to set aside six hours a week.

Others

You will be supported through a series of scheduled activities with selected key readings, specially developed course resources and course tutors. The course tutors are experienced and skilled online tutors, who have direct experience of preparing and teaching online courses. They will support you through both the development of your own learning activity designs, and the process of communicating and collaborating online.
