Topic 5: Your role as change agent for IoC in your institution

We started off our IoC journey by looking at ourselves and considering our own level of internationalisation. With that in the back of our minds we have looked at definitions and theories of IoC, we have explored our institutions' positionings on IoC, and looked at our own disciplines and 'how to' ideas that might be useful in our area. I hope that as you have worked through these areas that you have been able to reflect on your own personal positioning, what you are comfortable with and what you are less comfortable with. I also hope that by now that you are formulating ideas about the sort of experiences you want to seek for yourself and your students to continue on this journey of internationalisation. At this stage you might like to re-read Martin Haigh's article, IoC: designing inclusive education for a small world in which he outlines the challenges for academics and institutions. In this final week I want to move back to looking at ourselves and explore the possibilities for us to take on roles as change agents for IoC within our institutions.

As this is our last week we also seek feedback on your experience of the course and so we ask you to participate in an evaluation.

Activity 1: Action plans

Aim to post this by Thursday of week five.

For this first task think about the institutional environment for IoC that you uncovered at the beginning of the course, and the orientation of your discipline. Think about how you could take IoC forward either in your institution or in your discipline. Download the action plan template, fill this in, and then post it to the Action plans discussion. Read two other people's action plans and give them some constructive feedback.

Activity 2: Final reflections

Aim to post this by Thursday of week five.

Reflexivity is an essential part of IoC. Write a reflection on how your understanding of IoC has changed as you have taken this course and how the course has contributed to this. Post your reflection in the Final reflections discussion. Read two other people's reflections.

Activity 3: Course evaluation

Aim to post this by Sunday of week five.

Your final task is to evaluate this course and we are most grateful for all feedback we receive. We are asking you to do this to help us improve the course. It is likely that we will seek to present and publish experiences of running this course from the perspective of both the tutors and the course participants, and for marketing purposes it is useful for us to be able to illustrate the course experience with comments from participants. In this event no participant will be identified. In order to evaluate the course please use the course feedback survey form.
