Ramadan and the Games
Description
London 2012 will see a clash of timing between the Olympic Games and Ramadan (which runs from 21st July to 20th August). It is estimated that about 3000 Muslim athletes will be taking part in these Games, and research from previous Games shows that fasting during the day can aversely affect the performance of some athletes. The case study examines measures were taken by LOCOG and the IOC to help mitigate against such effects, by providing prayer rooms at all venues and promoting the Olympic Village as a multi-faith centre.
