Faculty leads the way in Brookes Union Teaching Awards

30/03/2017

Staff from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have received five nominations across the six categories of the fifth annual Brookes Union Teaching Awards.

The teaching awards celebrate the fantastic work that our staff do, with nominations and votes coming from Brookes students.

Professor Simon Kövesi was nominated in the Most Inspirational Lecturer category: "Teaching is not a popularity contest. It is about giving students the confidence to push themselves beyond their comfort zones, the self-belief to take on complexity with gusto, and the self-awareness to do better next time. In my neck of the academic woods, luckily enough, it is also about showing them routes through the most inspiring and transformative English Literature ever written. I'm hugely honoured to have been short-listed for this award."

I'm surprised but delighted to have been nominated

Dr Chris Rizza, Senior Lecturer in English Language and Communication

The Faculty has received nominations from the Department of English and Modern Languages, the Department of Social Sciences, School of History, Philosophy and Culture, and School of Education. The awards will be presented at a dinner on Friday 31 March at the Four Pillars Hotel, Oxford.
