New pamphlet press will support international poetry talent

15/09/2017

Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre has launched a new poetry pamphlet press which will recognise and support outstanding poets from across the world.

The press, entitled ignitionpress, launched online on Friday 15 September and will publish original, arresting poetry from emerging poets and established poets working on interim or special projects.

Niall Munro, Director of the Poetry Centre at Oxford Brookes University and Director of the ignitionpress Editorial Board, said: “The establishment of a poetry press is an exciting new step for the Poetry Centre, which has enthusiastically promoted the work of poets both nationally and internationally since it was set up in 1998.

“I’m thrilled that the Centre, drawing upon the editorial expertise of Les Robinson and Alan Buckley, will now have the chance to become more involved with the poetry scene by supporting outstanding poets.”

Les Robinson, founder and director of the renowned poetry publisher tall-lighthouse, has been named as ignitionpress’ Managing Editor. Les was responsible for the first publications of poets Helen Mort, Emily Berry, Sarah Howe, Adam O’Riordan, and Liz Berry, plus many other poets active on the current UK poetry scene.

The Editorial Board also includes Oxford-based poet Alan Buckley - author of the acclaimed pamphlets The Long Haul and Shiver - and Claire Cox, poet and Head of Business Development in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University.

The Editorial Board has also announced that the first three poets to be published by ignitionpress will be Mary Jean Chan, Patrick Errington, and Lily Blacksell. More information about these writers can be found on the Poets page.

The first three pamphlets will be published and on sale in early 2018, and will be accompanied by a series of launch events.

The Poetry Centre is based in the Department of English and Modern Languages at Oxford Brookes University. The Centre hosts an annual programme of events including conferences and research seminars, workshops, exhibitions, poetry readings and community projects. It is also a base for the research into poetry being undertaken within the Department.
