Amazing Acts set for repeat performance at Oxford's Pegasus Theatre

Amazing Acts, Oxford Brookes University's week-long residency at the Pegasus Theatre in Cowley, is again set to bring a mix of art, science, drama, music, writing and the imagination to audiences.

This year’s programme runs from Tuesday 7 May to Saturday 11 May and will see staff and students present a packed programme including talks on tiger conservation, sonic art exhibitions and drama and computer game design workshops for children. Every space at the theatre will be part of the takeover – including the cupboards!

Dr Eleanor Lowe, senior lecturer in drama who is organising the event, said: "Amazing Acts offers a wide spectrum of events for all ages and last year we had a great reaction from audiences.

"The week-long festival is designed to offer something a little bit different. Some of the exhibitions are free, too, so people are free to just drop in."

Highlights include:

An evening of new writing with Philip Pullman
On Thursday 9 May 9 at 5pm on the Philip Pullman stage, the man himself hosts a showcase for students of the university’s Creative Writing MA programme. One of last year’s readers has since landed a two-book contract with a major international publisher, so come and sit with agents and editors as they hope to spot the next Big Thing…

Claude
Claude was discovered two months ago in a cupboard at Oxford Brookes. Come down and meet him but please open the door carefully in case he is resting!

Free concerts
Join Oxford Brookes students for free mini music concerts in the Pegasus café throughout the week.

Shakespeare workshops
Oxford Brookes students will be leading drama workshops using poetry and Shakespeare for children aged from five to 11 on Saturday May 11th. The 50-minute sessions will involve physical theatre, storytelling and ensemble work.

Computer game design
Want to be a games designer? Then join some taster sessions for young people with a passion for games on Saturday May 11th. The sessions will provide a chance to work on the design for a platform game. Leading the session will be lecturer John Twycross.
