Eschatology in the Early Church

Description

Eschatology has been seen as a theme that was central to the New Testament writings, especially since the work of Albert Schweitzer and Johannes Weiss at the start of the twentieth century. Schweitzer saw Jesus as an apocalyptic figure who thought that his death would bring about the end of the world (Rowland.2002.119-121). The validity of these opinions has been subject to much historical criticism over the intervening years by biblical critics but they do draw attention to key themes in the early writings, beliefs and experience of Christians.
