Changes coming to Headington Campus

13/04/2016

From Monday 18 April, Clerici will close as work commences on the refurbishment of the building, along with the former library and the Main Hall.

These works are due to conclude in the summer of 2017, when a new home for the Faculty of Business will open, along with 24 modern teaching rooms, a collaborative lecture theatre and further social learning spaces.

Also included within these works is the demolition of the Main Hall and the Main Lecture Theatre. A new Main Hall will be constructed on the same footprint. This will be an adaptable space, providing two new lecture rooms with a soundproofed partition wall which will transform into a single, large space that will be ideal for events such as graduations and exams.

These works are due to conclude in the summer of 2017, when a new home for the Faculty of Business will open, along with 24 modern teaching rooms, a collaborative lecture theatre and further social learning spaces.

These new spaces include:

  • a new home for the Faculty of Business
  • 24 state-of-the-art teaching rooms
  • a collaborative lecture theatre
  • a rebuilt, multi-functional Main Hall
  • social learning space with cafe.

As the improvements take shape, you might notice some changes to pedestrian routes, cycle parking and car parking at Gipsy Lane.

Pedestrian routes

From Monday 18 April routes you might be used to taking through Clerici will no longer be available. This includes all routes through the former main reception. If you access Sinclair through Clerici, you will need to use the entrances facing Gibbs or Abercrombie to enter the building. Accessible, level routes around campus are marked on the Headington Campus map which can be viewed here.

Cycle parking

Cycle parking by the Main Hall and former Library will close with new, permanent racking systems already installed around the campus to complement existing provision. The OXONBIKE cycle hire docking station will also be moving: it’s currently outside the Main Hall and will move next to the Lloyd building on Thursday 14 April.

Accessible, visitor and motorcycle parking

Visitor parking on the Headington Campus will remain in the same location, but is set to be reduced. Staff car parking spaces will not be affected by these works. Staff will be able to book visitor parking in the same way as they do now.

The number of accessible parking spaces will reduce slightly on the Gipsy Lane site. Where possible, we have introduced new spaces in locations which are closer to buildings. This means that accessible spaces will be spread across the campus to reduce distances from key services and locations (seven spaces adjacent to the old library, one next to Brookes Restaurant and four in the quad outside Gibbs).

To ensure that accessible and visitor parking is optimised on the Gipsy Lane site, all motorcycle parking next to the former Library is to be moved to existing facilities on the Headington Hill site.
