International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies currently leads a project for mapping sources of coaching knowledge-generation as part of the initiative by an alliance of the major professional coaching bodies, universities and corporate purchasers of coaching. The project is supported by the British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.
This initiative aims to support the development of the coaching profession through providing public access to all organisations involved in the generation of coaching knowledge and their relevant activities. This initiative was suggested by Oxford Brookes academics involved in the `Future of Coaching Collaboration’ (FCC), an independent, not for profit group consisting of representatives of many professional coaching bodies, academic institutions, work place sponsors of coaching and other stakeholders in the coaching field. The project is supported financially by Oxford Brookes University and the British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.
The working group of FCC includes Prof Tatiana Bachkirova (OBU), Dr Sally Bonneywell (GSK), Lis Merrick (EMCC) and Joy Harcup (ICF). At this stage the group is working on the development of a website called ‘Coaching Knowledge Portal’ which will provide links to organisations involved in developing original knowledge in coaching. These organisations, or ‘Knowledge Providers’, around the globe will share links to the activities and projects that contribute to the development of the knowledge base of coaching.
The Coaching Knowledge Portal will allow anyone interested in coaching, as a contributor or user (e.g. potential organisational purchasers of coaching, individual clients, new students of coaching, researchers and policy makers), free access to information about the contribution to coaching knowledge from various providers.
