Professional Doctorate in Nursing Student Wins Educational Innovation Award

30/06/2020

Congratulations to Neesha Oozageer Gunowa a PhD Candidate here at Oxford Brookes, who has been awarded an Educational Innovation Award by The Phi Mu Chapter, Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International for her PhD work.  As part of her PhD, Neesha has been exploring teaching and learning in relation to diversity, more specifically around skin tone diversity.  Her work highlights the lack of evidence-based literature and research exploring health care issues relating to people with darker skin tones resulting in health inequalities and poor delivery of care.  The award firmly sits under the mission of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International which strives to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence through scholarship, leadership, and service.

Neesha said “I am delighted and feel privileged to have received this award. It has helped me open more of a dialogue and given me the confidence that there are people who believe my doctoral work is important and can not only lead to institutional change within nurse education but also break down health inequities
