Introduction to course technologies transcript

Hello Everyone.
I'm George Roberts. Welcome to the First Steps in Learning and Teaching Open Online Course. We’re all looking forward to working with you. In this brief presentation, I’d like to show you the sites that we’ve set up for this course and explain how and where we might interact with each other.

We’ve deliberately designed the course so that you can choose your own spaces and locations to work in. It doesn’t have to be one of the two sites that we’ve set up – so if you do that you might like to hashtag your posts with - #fslt16, so that we can find you, or provide us with a URL as a link to your site, and then we know where you are – and you can aggregate your blog from the link on the home page. That is if you want us to know where you are!

In addition to your own spaces we have set up two areas for interaction: Adobe Connect, and Moodle. Adobe Connect is hte synchronous meeting site where the live sessions will happen and where you can hear our guest speakers. The site is open, like most of the course, and you should enter as a guest: you don't need to log in. Type any name you want, the name you'd like to be recognised as, in the name box, and then click 'Enter room'. Only the presenters need to log in.

If you're going to join us in the Moodle forums, in the Moodle site, you need to follow the instructions for enrolling to the course. You will need to enrol in the Moodle course if you want to post to the discussion forums.

If you would prefer to use your blog rather that the discussions, you can paste a link to a post in your blog into the discussion forums or tweet it with the #fslt16 so others can find it.

And once you get into Moodle you might want to Edit your Profile. Here's Neil completing his. This way people can find out something about you.

In the Moodle site you will see that there are two navigation bars. At the top: home, my courses, Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development, FSLT16, reflective practice. This is the breadcrumb trail, this will take you back the way you've come.

Below that there's the tabbed interface. General info, week 0 induction and welcome, week 1 teaching, week 2 reflective practice, week 3 supporting learning, week 4 designing, activities and webinars. Here you'll see the topics of the course are set out in a week by week arrangement. You can navigate through the course by going back the way you came or by jumping to the week you'd like to join.

We look forward to working with you, and if you have any questions about the course you can email support@openbrookes.net. See you soon.
