Diverting Funding from Community to Elite Sport
Description
An important legacy goal of the 2012 Games is increased grassroots participation in sport, but its achievement is questionable because of the diversion of funding from community sports initiatives into elite sport. The question this case study raises is whether the attainment of medals, particularly gold, will have a positive impact on wider participation.
