Urban Design - Advanced library Skills

Description

Advanced library Skills session presented by Geoff Morgan Academic Liaison Librarian for the Built Environment held in the JHB Basement Library Training Room 31 January 2017. This covers brief demonstrations of Discover, and searching the library catalogue to find a book/e-book. He shows how to set up a search strategy for a literature search, selecting keywords from a working dissertation title,listing synonyms of the keywords and how these can combined or truncated to search databases. He discusses the importance of narrowing the search criteria. This is followed by a demonstration of databases such as Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, Avery, Factiva, Google Advanced Search and Google Scholar. There is a demonstration of the Bodleian Library Catalogue Solo and Geoff decribes tohe process of applying for membership. The session then moves onto referencing and he highlights the guides available and concludes with a demonstration of Endnote Web.
