15/03/2018

An Oxford Brookes University alumnus was recognised at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2018 in Kazakhstan yesterday (14 March).

The awards celebrate UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world. More than 1,700 applications from international UK alumni in a record 123 countries were received, representing more than 140 UK higher education institutions across the UK.

Organised by the British Council, the award ceremony took place in Astana and saw three UK alumni recognised for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their important contribution to strengthening collaborative ties between the UK and Kazakhstan.

The remarkable individuals we celebrated today at the Study UK Alumni Awards in Kazakhstan have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them.

The Entrepreneurial Award, which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in business innovation, was presented to Renat Galyamov, a graduate of Oxford Brookes University.

Renat single-handedly built Kazakhstan’s largest medical information technology product MED24.KZ, which connects patients with medical organisations and doctors across the country. His innovative service has already helped over 300,000 people locate a qualified doctor.

Speaking about his win Renat said: "I’m honoured to receive this award. I’m grateful for all the discoveries the UK helped me to make and I’m looking forward to many more. This award motivates me to work harder."

Jim Buttery, Director at the British Council in Kazakhstan said: “The remarkable individuals we celebrated today at the Study UK Alumni Awards in Kazakhstan have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them. This year’s awards ceremony is testimony not only to the diversity of UK alumni and their endeavours, but also to the transformative impact of a UK education.”

There were three award categories: Entrepreneurial, Professional Achievement, and Social Impact. Recipients were chosen following in-depth interviews with a judging panel.
