In this month’s SRS Top 5 in 5, our monthly series on 5 things you need to know about the SRS in 5 minutes or less, we are presenting the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the SRS. These include information on the Academic Framework Review’s relationship with the SRS, as well as how we are preparing for our next milestone, the Admissions Go-Live in September 2018.

1. How are we preparing for the Admissions Go-Live in September 2018?
Admissions and Oxford Brookes International (OBI) teams are now preparing to test the applications that colleagues submitted during the dry-run. Our faculty staff will also help with this work to ensure that we can test the complete journey of a student application.
Admissions and OBI will receive training in April to enable them to use the new system and will also receive more training closer to the go-live dates. Our findings from the dry-run testing will feed into our change plans ahead of Go-Live. These plans will be updated and managed by the Admissions change group.
2. How does the Academic Framework Review relate to the SRS?
The Academic Framework Review (AFR) is an initiative to refresh the regulations and policies of programmes of study at Oxford Brookes University. It aims to help structure and organise the University’s programmes in order to enhance the student and staff experience.
The AFR implementation is intended to dovetail and complement the implementation of the SRS whilst also taking into account the volume of change happening within the University. Although the AFR is a separate project from the SRS, we are working to ensure that our new system is flexible enough to support any academic structure and policies that the AFR intends to implement.
3. How are we collaborating with other Ellucian users?
The SRS Programme and key stakeholders have been collaborating with other institutions to share best practice. This has included user groups relating to Finance, Admissions and HESA reporting, as well as the Banner UK User Group. In addition, in May several key stakeholders and SRS Team members are attending the Ellucian Europe user conference in Bath, Somerset, to share best practice with higher education peers.
4. How will Moodle and other interfacing systems interact with the new SRS?
Where suitable, existing interfaces will be migrated from eCSIS to the new system. These will continue to operate as today with minimal changes. We will continue to use Moodle. Modules will continue to be synchronised between it and the new system. However, the structure of modules in Moodle will be updated to match the new system.
In addition to Moodle, there are about 30 interfaces that will continue to be used with the new system. We will also add some new interfaces such as WPM, which will replace our existing card payment system.
5. How will historical data be archived in the new SRS?
Part of the implementation of the new SRS involves transferring 10 years of student and course data into Banner. This includes students’ biographical data, course and finance details, among several other categories. The SRS Team has identified the need for an archiving project to deal with all legacy data from eCSIS. More information about progress on this work will be available at the end of April.
During April and May the central admissions team, as well as the admissions team at Oxford Brookes International, will be working together on testing and training in the new SRS Admissions functionality. Read more in the Onstream article.
