Introducing our new Research and Knowledge Exchange and International strategies

29/04/2016

In 2010, Oxford Brookes University launched its ten year Strategy 2020. The old adage that a week is a long time in politics can equally be applied to higher education and there have been significant changes for universities since the start of the decade.

Following necessary updates to the overall University strategy and the Strategy for Enhancing the Student Experience, this month (26 April 2016) the institution’s Board of Governors ratified two further strategies which are key to the future direction of Oxford Brookes.

It has been incredibly advantageous that the revised Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy has been produced in tandem with the new International Strategy. Our three strategic objectives for research and knowledge exchange are all closely linked with the University becoming increasingly internationalised.

Professor Linda King, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research & Global Partnership)

The Research and Knowledge Exchange and International strategies have both been revised for the period 2015 to 2020 in anticipation of further changes to the higher education landscape.

Paul Inman, Pro Vice Chancellor (International Student Recruitment), commented: “The University already enjoys an international reputation for it teaching excellence and innovation as well as strong links with business and industry on a global scale. This was exemplified by Oxford Brookes recently being named as one of the world’s most international universities by the Times Higher Education.

“It is vital for the future of the institution that we consider Oxford Brookes’ worldwide presence. This includes the development of the University’s international outlook and in ensuring that we make a difference wherever we operate in the world.

“Looking forward, one of our new strategic goals is to further increase our international student recruitment. We will also be putting a key focus on our international strategic partnerships which has involved close work with the development of the new Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy.”

Professor Linda King, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research & Global Partnership), added: “It has been incredibly advantageous that the revised Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy has been produced in tandem with the new International Strategy. Our three strategic objectives for research and knowledge exchange are all closely linked with the University becoming increasingly internationalised.

“These include increasing our world-leading research, further collaboration - which includes global partnerships - and ensuring our research has even greater impact with our communities whether local, national or international.

“We know from the results of the Research Excellence Framework 2014 that we are in a strong position with 94 per cent of our submitted research internationally-recognised or better. Our quality related research funding increased by 41 per cent against a sector average of three per cent and part of our strategy highlights our commitment to further supporting and developing both staff and students over the coming years.”

Quick read versions of the Research and Knowledge Exchange and International strategies are both available to read on the Oxford Brookes website where you can also read the documents in full.
